A special Summer break to the to the D-Day invasion Beaches for its 80th anniversary! Visit the charming Normandy town of Bayeux and the famous Bayeux Tapestry depicting the 1066 invasion of Britain.

Itinerary includes:

Evening Condor ferry to St Malo with overnight stay in the four-star, Mercure Hotel Balmoral in St Malo

Morning coach transfer to St Mere Eglise where the American Airborne troops landed with Private John Steele left hanging off the church roof on the night before D-Day.

Visit to the Airborne Museum with its unique arms collection including gliders used in the invasion.

Tour continues to Omaha Beach where the Americans suffered such heavy casualties and on to the American Cemetery and the 100-foot-high cliffs of the Pointe Du Hocq stormed and held by US army Rangers.

Visit to the Bayeux Tapestry Museum to see this unique depiction of William the Conqueror’s conquest of Britain. Believed to be embroidered in England by Anglo Saxon women in the 1070s the tapestry is 230 foot long and depicts the build up to the Invasion of England by William and the Battle of Hastings with the death of King Harold. Most amusing are some of the ribald pictures in the margins presumably added by the lady embroiderers as a break from the serious history!

Check in to the four-star, Novotel hotel in Bayeux with three course dinner including wine, with time to visit this charming town surrendered to the allies and mercifully not destroyed in the invasion.

Morning visit to the new British Normandy Memorial at Ver-Sur Mer. This imposing memorial is sited on 45 acres overlooking Gold Beach and carries the names of the 22,442 who died under British command in the battle for Normandy. Among the names are those of Jersey and Guernsey heroes killed in the campaign.

Drive along the D-Day beaches to Pegasus Bridge where Major Howard’s force landed at night within yards of the bridge in one of the most amazing actions of D-Day.

Return to St Malo for the afternoon ferry to Jersey.
